Yeading 1 Eastleigh 4
Nationwide Conference South – Saturday 28 April 2007
Yeading’s run of games without a win ends with the season after ten games, but it looked so different after six minutes following Marvin Morgan’s solo effort.
Morgan put the Ding ahead with his nineteenth league goal picking the ball up on half way before beating a series of Eastleigh players and firing home.
The lead however was short-lived with Andy Forbes equalising on twelve minutes, putting the ball into a empty net after Luke Blackmore’s punch failed to clear Ding lines.
Nine minutes later Forbes doubled his tally in similar style with Blackmore’s clearance lacking the desired effect and the Eastleigh striker reacting quicker than Ding defenders.
Seven minutes after the break, Michael Barima had Yeading’s best chance to get back level. In space on the overlap when Marvin Morgan found him just outside the box right side, the Ding wide-man took an extra touch that allowed defenders back to block his shot and see the chance fizzle out.
On the hour mark the game was over as Eastleigh took a 3-1 lead, capitalising on some weak Yeading defending. The first corner of the half was swung in from the right and Steve West rose unmarked to head home.
Five minutes later Andy Harris sprung the offside trap and despite Greg Kirkpatrick’s gallant chase, slotted Eastleigh’s fourth past the advancing Blackmore.
Ding boss Garry Haylock made his first and only appearance of the season from the bench for the last twenty minutes and had Yeading’s only other chance of note. Spinning off his marker, Haylock’s fierce volley forced James Pullen into a good flying save to his left.
Both sides were certain of safety before the game and with only a header across of goal from Eastleigh late on, the game failed to produce further efforts on goal.
