Yeading remain unbeaten at the Warren under manager Garry Haylock but will be disappointed to concede a late goal and lose out on a further two points.

In a game of few clear-cut chances, Yeading took a 33 minute lead out of nothing. A simple ball to deal with became a nightmare for County ‘keeper Mark Ovendale. Confusion between himself and his defenders exploited by Marvin Morgan to round Ovendale and slot into the empty net.

Four minutes later Chris Wright forced Ovendale into a good save at his near post and from the resulting corner Tom Cadmore headed just over.

Whilst Newport always looked capable of a goal, Yeading controlled the game and twice saw the ball ping-pong around the visitors box with no vital touch.

At the other end, Dean Holsworth’s free kick from 30 yards was well gathered by Paul Seuke and twice Nathan Davis fired high and wide when well placed. For the most part however, the towering figure of Richard Goddard marshalled the Ding defence to deal with anything.

However, the one moment the Ding defence switched off cost them dear. With eight minutes to go Yeading were slow to regroup to a Newport free kick mid-way inside their own half, wide left. Taken quickly with Yeading turned away, the ball deep to the far post found unmarked Darren Garner who sent a half-volley into the net.

With Yeading rattled, Newport hit the bar from a deep cross and Davis yet again failed to hit the target after creating a great position.

However, on the stroke of full-time it was Yeading’s Morgan who had the chance for real glory. Sub Michael Barima used his pace right edge of the box and squared the ball. Morgan looked to take a second touch and on the edge of a muddy six yard box enabled Newport to scramble clear.
