Yeading visited the Park View Ground on Saturday hoping to emulate last year’s 1-0 victory against a Welling side who will be hoping for a play-off spot this season.
Despite injury problems limiting selection, it looked promising on eight minutes when the Ding took an eighth minute lead albeit against the run of play. Adam Everitt was the provider as Yeaidng found space in the Wings defence for Jeff Goulding to poke home his second of the season.
On twenty five minutes the game began to slip away from the Ding. Captain Nevin Saroya went up for a challenge with Danny Kedwell and when Kedwell required treatment from the collision, the baying crowd appeared to force the referee into showing a card, although its yellow colour was not to the home crowd’s liking.
Three minutes later the sides were level with a superb free kick from 30 yards sent round the Ding wall and into the bottom corner by Jamie Day. Former Ding man Des Boateng could have put his side ahead before the break latching on to a Che Stadhart through ball but his effort lack power and the two sides went in level.
Following the break Welling upped the tempo a-la-Ding-style and got just rewards. Kedwell slipping his shot under Delroy Preddie two minutes in.
A goal down and lacking penetration up front the Ding’s game-plan fell apart on forty-nine minutes when Saroya was sent off for a second yellow card, tripping Kedwell when attempting to regain his own balance.
Richard Goddard who had begun the game as a make-shift centre-forward moved back to the heart of defence and on sixty-three minutes wished he hadn’t, bringing down Kedwell who duly despatched the spot kick.
At the other end, Marvin Morgan on as a sub did have a one-on-one opportunity on seventy minutes but took the ball too wide of ‘keeper Jamie Turner, who made a comfortable save from the resulting shot.
Welling by now were firmly in charge and a long-ball to Matt Bodkin saw the Wing’s midfielder get the better of Danny Allen-Page and slot under Preddie on seventy-six minutes.
The final blow came on eighty-six minutes when Ellis Green netted his first in a Wings shirt, firing home off the underside of the bar.
